Zoe's Testimony

I went to Gallup for the first time in March 2023 with a mission team from my high school. I was rapidly approaching the end of my senior year of high school, and needless to say, I was very ready to graduate. I had already committed to a college and my classwork was getting lighter as the end of the year approached. That mission trip was just another thing I had to check off of my list to get to graduation day. Once I got to Gallup, my view of the trip changed. I realized that instead of trying to rush through this trip to the end of my senior year, I needed to slow down. I prayed to God and told Him that I wanted to be available to whatever He was calling me to. I prayed for opportunities for God to use me in the “in between” season; very quickly, God answered that prayer. I was presented with the opportunity to come back to Gallup in the summer. That was God saying, “You said you were available. Are you really?” After praying with some of my leaders, I decided to return to Gallup for the summer to serve at Creator’s Fellowship Church.

At first I was very nervous. I hopped on the plane not really knowing what to expect when I landed. Despite all of the unknowns, God gave me a sense of peace that I know only He can give. Once I got to Gallup, everything fell into place. I felt alive and truly on fire for God in a way that I never have before. I felt free in Christ because I was doing what He had asked me to do. While in Gallup, I worked at Vacation Bible School and I helped lead worship at church on Sundays. All of these experiences helped me build character and my faith in God. I learned how to endure through uncomfortable circumstances, such as heat and exhaustion, by leaning into the strength of God. Where I was weak, He was strong. I learned that the only way to get through homesickness and sadness was by leaning in close to God by continuously meditating on His Word. In New Mexico, I was able to create a rhythm of service and worship in my life that I wanted to continue when I returned home and then moved to college. My life has been changed for the better because I made a choice to be available to what God was teaching me. If anything can be learned from my testimony, I hope it is this: say yes to what God has called you to. Make your answer yes before He even calls. Stepping into God’s calling for your life is ultimately rewarding, even though it seems hard or uncomfortable at the moment.

Who/What: Creator’s Fellowship is a gathering of people who wish to maintain their Native culture,

and worship the Creator who died on the cross for our sin, with a passion for learning and living the

Word of God, and a desire to share the good news of the Jesus way with all who we encounter.

When: As we are going. Seeking to do life together, not just on Sunday morning, but every day and

in every way, becoming part of the family so we can share in both the joys and pains of life.

How : We plan to achieve this by teaching the Word of God without personal bias, letting the Word of

God change lives through the conviction of the Holy Spirit. This teaching takes place in 4 ways;

Culturally relevant preaching and teaching
Culturally relevant worship in song
Bible Fellowships
One on one relationships, doing life with one another

Where: Until God provides someplace different, we will meet the people where they are in the

community and homes. We do life together.

Why: Because Jesus did it this way. He went to where the people were. He sat in their homes, at

their tables and did life with them. He taught using parables and stories relevant to the people.

State of the Ministry Address 2022

I am constantly reminded of the saying, “You can't move forward if you are always looking back.” A few weeks ago we had some couples from 3 local churches at our house, and we were talking about some of the challenges we face and what it takes to truly “make disciples” here on Navajo. I found myself thinking about Psalm 34:8,

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”

For many of our people, what they have tasted and seen of the Lord is not good.

Many of the older Generation still live in the memory of the boarding schools where children were forced to take “Christian Names,” not allowed to speak in their own language, and faced all forms of inhuman punishment or even death. Some who are here and serving alongside me today were forced to attend these boarding schools and

churches, where they were baptized so many times that the Baptism Ceremony has lost its significance in their lives.

The gospel has been attached to all kinds of gimmicks and has been prostituted in exchange for people getting things they want or need from the church. Some time ago, I was speaking and praying with a person whose daughter had gone out with a pastor's son 2 years ago, and they never returned. Her body, along with another body,

were only recently found. Last fall I was talking to a man who left another church where the church leaders did not want the Natives touching their sound equipment for fear that it might get taken. I was talking with a local ministry leader, he explained that the students he is in contact with don’t see the love of Jesus in the Gospel because the love

of Jesus has been replaced with legalism and hatred. This causes me to hang my head in shame for what we, the Church, have done. Many have said they just need to get over it. Get over it? The persecution has not ended yet. This answers the question of why the Gospel is seen as white man's religion, and why today our people are asleep to the good news of the Gospel: because what they have tasted of the LORD has not tasted good.

So where do we go from here? We love unconditionally. believe this saying came from a friend from South Dakota: “We love until they ask why.” We serve endlessly. We serve until our tank is empty. And we serve some more so the people can see the love of Jesus in us, through us, and around us. Not just by what we say but by what we do. We point people to Jesus. When we want to give people hope, give them hope in Jesus. When we want to help people with their identity, show them who they are in Jesus. When we want to help with their quality of life, show them their value in Jesus. This is not just what is needed on the Navajo Nation but in all of the world. The whole world needs a good healthy heaping dose of Jesus.

1. Teach Biblical truth, not personal preferences or personal conviction.

2. You don’t know what you don’t know.

3. American conservatism is not Biblical truth.

4. Just because something is different does not mean it is wrong.

5. Let the Holy Spirit do its work. It’s not your job.

6. Celebrate, learn, and respect the culture. Build cultural bridges, not walls.

7. Love above all. Love until people ask why.
